Obituary

Zachary Preston Murphy   l   July 12, 1981 - January 22, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce Zachary Preston Murphy, 43, of Beckley, WV, has departed from his earthly body for his eternal life on January 22, 2025. Zach is a beloved father, son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend. He will be deeply missed by everyone who knew and loved him.

Zach was welcomed into his heavenly home by all of his cherished grandparents: Preston and Marietta Peters; Marvin and Betty Murphy; Jim and JoAnn Ellison; and James "Estil" and Margaret Blankenship.

Carrying his love and memories forward in this life are Zach's beautiful daughters, Madison "Maddie" and Emily "Emma" Murphy, who were the light of his life and his pride and joy. Zach is also survived by the mother of his children, Candia Pritt; his loving, devoted parents, PK Ellison and Donna Ellison, and Stephen and Connie Murphy; and all of his siblings who love him unconditionally: brother Josh Murphy and his wife Nikki; sisters Leah Ellison, Kelli Ellison, Monica Murphy, and Mandy Mattingly and her husband Josh. Missing and loving their Uncle Zach are Makena, Bailey, Avery, Alexandra, Victoria, and Danielle. Zach is also fondly remembered and greatly missed by extended family, friends, and neighbors, especially the Bowen and Harris families who love him dearly.

Known for his big heart, kind spirit, and striking green eyes, Zach had a warmth that made everyone around him feel valued and loved. He always wore his heart on his sleeve, along with his favorite WVU hat and an old pair of jeans. Zach easily connected with others by always being his genuine and playful self. He had the ability to instantly put people at ease and lighten the mood in any situation. Zach was naturally talented at fixing anything, building anything, and putting anything together. He had a remarkable ability with numbers and math, allowing him to work every project with precision to meet the meticulous standard he held for himself. His most impressive skill was being able to joke around anywhere, anytime, and with anyone. He lovingly teased the people closest to him and found humor in everything. His smile was infectious and his laugh contagious. He had a great love and appreciation for animals and was quick to become best friends with the closest dog or cat to him. Zach was happiest when he was fishing, enjoying the outdoors in the mountains or by the water, and when he was just talking to and being together with the people he loved. He reminded us that the simple things are what life's really all about, and we all need to slow down to "Zach-speed" more often so we can enjoy the small things a little more.

A service to remember and celebrate Zach's life will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at Glade Community Church in Daniels, WV. Visitation with family and friends will be held from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM, and a service will follow from 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM. All who knew and loved Zach are welcome.

While our hearts are heavy with sorrow, we find comfort in knowing Zach is at peace and reunited with his grandparents. He is watching over us, and his legacy will continue to live on through his daughters who bring joy, love, and light into the world.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Zach's honor to the charity of your choice.

May his soul rest in eternal peace.
