Wilma Jean Shay, age 83, passed away peacefully at Commonwealth Senior Living Home, Cedar Bluff, Virginia, on Wednesday September 28, 2022.
Born on December 4, 1938, in Richlands, VA, Wilma is survived by her sisters-in-law, Patricia McReynolds of Bluefield WV and Patty Rae McReynolds of Bland, VA; her niece and husband, Wendy (McReynolds) and Tom Dale of Columbus, GA; nephews and wives, Andrew (Andy) and Audrey McReynolds and their children Waylon and Gwendolyn of Floyd, VA; William Matthew (Matt) and Rhonda McReynolds and their children Stephen, Bailey and Nathan of Jefferson City, TN; Christopher (Chris) and Krystal McReynolds and their children Zebulon, Cameron and Jett of Kingsport, TN; and many great friends who were like her "Sisters". Wilma graduated from Graham High School, and from Radford University, where she majored in education.
Her teaching days began at Falls Mills Elementary School in Tazewell County, Virginia. She spent the majority of her career in the Matamoras School District in Pennsylvania until retirement. Wilma's love of reading inspired her to teach children with special needs. She traveled throughout Eastern Pennsylvania training teachers to also instruct children who struggled to read. She served on the Matamoras City Council as a Council Member at-Large for over 10 years.
Family and close friends will fondly remember Wilma's ability to plan the most special details for holidays, vacations, garden parties, and the many festive occasions with her signature style, flair, and sparkle.
A celebration of life event will be held on October 2, 2022, at 1:30 PM in Wilma's memory at Grandview Memorial Mausoleum in Bluefield, VA, with the reverend Don Scott officiating.
