WANDA JEAN YORK SCOTT

Wanda Jean York Scott was born in Huntington, WV to Madge Nichols York and James Eugene York.  She passed away Friday, July 04, 2025 at home under Hospice care.  She graduated from Graham High School and attended McClane Business School.  She was a member of Memorial Baptist Church.  Wanda married her high school sweetheart, Jim O. Scott on March 23, 1953 in York, NC and became a Navy wife. She had worked at Virginia Foods and also worked in the cafeteria for several local schools.  After attending a cake decorating class, she became known as "the cake lady."  Many enjoyed her delicious cakes over the years.  She was also a founding member of the Bluefield Virginia Rescue Squad, running calls and working fundraisers. She earned the status of Life Member.  In later years, she was a volunteer at Bluefield Regional Medical Center.  She enjoyed cooking and crafting and made holidays magical for her family.  Among her favorite things to do were camping at Hungry Mother's State Park and Emerald Isle, NC at the beach.  She and Jim enjoyed traveling and exploring new places to eat. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her in-laws, a grandson, Christopher and great-granddaughter, Abby, as well as a special brother-in-law, Jack.

She is survived by her husband, Jim; sister, Mary Alice Stacey of Myrtle Beach; daughter, Kimberly and husband, Mac; son, Brian and wife, Linda. She was grandmaw to 5, great-grandmaw to 7 and great great-grandmaw to 3.

In keeping with her wishes, her body will be cremated. The family will plan a memorial service to be held at later date.  Details will be posted as the plans are finalized.
