VIOLA JANE COOK HUGHES
Viola Jane Cook Hughes, 95, of Bluefield, VA, passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at Carilion New River Valley Medical Center, Radford, VA. Born in Buchanan County, VA, she was the daughter of the late Harrison Taylor and Rachel Keene Cook. She was a faithful member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church for over 70 years. She was also a member of the Shelby Heights Home Demonstration Club. Viola was an avid reader, she enjoyed doing needlepoint and was an excellent cook. She spent time traveling with her husband when he worked for Bluestone Bedding. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph E "Cotton" Hughes; brother, John Creed Cook; sisters, Genoa Cook Johnson and Gladys Marie Cook Bandy.
She will be lovingly and affectionately remembered by her brothers: Lon L Cook of Whispering Pines, NC, Paul "Dickie" Cook and wife, Arizona and Raymond A Cook and wife, Betty all of Richlands, VA; numerous nieces and nephews and her caregivers, Yvonne Buchanan, Lonnie and Alice Johnson and Wanda Shrader.
A service to celebrate Viola's life will be held on Friday, September 2, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Grandview Memory Mausoleum Chapel with Rev Russ Hatfield officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday, September 2, 2016 from 1:00-1:45 p.m. at Dudley Memorial Mortuary.
