Velva Lane Jackson Tabor, 81, of Falls Mills, Virginia, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, August 24, 2025. Born in Council, Virginia, on August 28, 1943, Velva was the daughter of the late Worley Stanford Jackson and the late Martha Lambert Jackson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: her husband of 55 years, Thomas J. Tabor, Sr.; daughter, Edwina Tabor Taylor of Athens, Alabama; brother Norman Jackson of Baltimore, Maryland; brother Porter Jackson and sister-in-law Ellen Jackson, both of Baltimore, Maryland; sister Josefine Robbins, of Fredericksburg, Virginia; and brother-in-law Donald Tabor and sister-in-law Margaret Tabor. Velva grew up in Buchanan County, Virginia, and later McDowell County, West Virginia, attending Big Creek High School. When she married Thomas, they lived for a time in Washington, D.C., while he was in the U.S. Army, then they made their home in Falls Mills, Virginia, in 1961. Velva worked ten years at A-Mart in the Westgate Shopping Center before running Humfrey's Restaurant in Mercer Mall with her husband for nine years. She next spent 25 years working for Walmart in Bluefield, Virginia. She loved to cook, grow flowers, and brag on her grandchildren and great-grandchilden. Velva rarely met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone just about anywhere. She attended Falls Mills Christian Church. Left to cherish her memories are: son, Thomas J. Tabor, Jr., and his wife Karen of Tazewell, Tennessee; daughter Debra Tabor Brewster of Falls Mills, Virginia; and son Adam N. Tabor and wife "Tia" Thsering Angmo of Rigby, Idaho; and son-in-law Matthew Taylor of Athens, Alabama; sister Mary Nichols of Sterling, Virginia; and sister-in-law Geraldine Jackson of Baltimore, Maryland. Her grandchildren include: Brittany Tribell of Pineville, Kentucky; William Bryan Tabor of Pineville, Kentucky; Brittany Taylor of Oregon; Mallory Taylor Glenn and fiance A.J. Tolliver of Athens, Alabama; London Camille Ray-Dykstra of Roanoke, Virginia; Sahara Clare Brewster of Falls Mills, Virginia; and Milan Caroline Brewster of Washington, D.C. Her great-grandchildren are: Beckley, Brylea, Brelan, Beckley of Four Mile, Kentucky; Brynlee Tabor of Tazewell, Tennessee; Christian, Gabe, Khloe, and Lilly Tribell of Tazewell, Tennessee; Noah Christopher Glenn, Mia Tolliver, and Raelynn Grace Tolliver, of Athens, Alabama; and Arthur Alexander Ray-Dykstra of Roanoke, Virginia. She also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews. A special "thank you" from the family goes to Charley McCoy, who helped care for "Miss Velva" in the last few weeks, and the many wonderful ladies with Caris Hospice out of Cedar Bluff, Virginia, who assisted the family in countless ways at bringing comfort to their mother in her home. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Velva's memory to the Mercer or Tazewell Animal Shelters or the Falls Mills Christian Church.

A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm on Thursday, August 28th, 2025, at Dudley Memorial Mortuary. Memorial service will be 11 am on Friday, August 29th, 2025, at Dudley Memorial Mortuary with Michael Blevins speaking. Burial to follow at Maple Hill Cemetery in Bluefield, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Thomas J. Tabor, Jr.; Don Tabor; Christian Tribell; Gabe Tribell; Adam Tabor; and William Bryan Tabor.
