TROY V. BUSIC

Troy V. Busic, 93 of Bluefield, VA, passed away Thursday, January 17, 2019. He was born in Falls Mills, VA and was the son of the late Ada and Charles Busic. Troy served with the US Army (06-20-44 thru 04-22-46) 5 th Infantry Division in Germany.  On March 7, 1945 at the Ardennes, in Rhineland, Germany, he was buried alive by German artillery and dugout by his comrades during the Battle of the Bulge.  He also suffered frostbite on his feet from exposure to extreme cold temperatures during the war.  He received the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with Three Bronze Service Stars, WWII Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal with Japan Clasp, Combat Infantry Badge 1 st Award, Honorable Service Lapel Pin WWII and Marksman Badge with Rifle Bar.  He was a life member of the American Legion Post #9 Bluefield, WV, Disabled American Veterans Chapter #31 Princeton, WV and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #9696 Bluefield, VA.  Troy was a master carpenter, contractor, licensed electrician and plumber and built many homes in the two Bluefields.  He also built the original Veterans Memorial Monument in Bluefield, VA.  He was employed with Corte Construction for many years and supervised many commercial jobs, including the construction of the Pavilion hospital on Route 460.  He was Maintenance Supervisor for St. Luke's Hospital.  He managed The Green Mountain Park in Lenoir, NC until he became disabled from his war injuries.  When he lived at home, Troy loved gardening, spending time with his dog, watching the golf channel, listening to gospel music and reading his devotionals.  He spent time in Dogwood Assisted Living, Tazewell, VA, Salem Long Term Care, Salem, VA and Beckley Veterans Long Term Care Unit, Beckley, WV. In addition to his parents, Troy is preceded in death by his daughter: Drema Busic; brothers: James Busic and Danny Busic (KIA) Korean War; sisters: Eula McFarland and Betty Kanode.

Those left to cherish his memory are: the love of his life, his wife of 69 years: Audrey Busic; his daughters: Sonja Busic and husband, Danny Brewer of Bluefield, WV, Anita McGuire of Bluefield, VA and Chris Bourne and husband, Jody of Mint Hill, NC; grandchildren: Frank Brewer of Bastian, VA, Heath Bandy and wife, Ashley of Mint Hill, NC, Brandon Bandy and wife, Jenny of Indian Trail, NC, Jessica Morris and husband, Scott of Matthews, NC, Hannah Bourne of Mint Hill, NC and Ben Bourne of Charlotte, NC.

A service to celebrate Troy's life will be held Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at Dudley Memorial Chapel at 2:00 P.M. with Rev Ken Owen officiating. The Honor Guard will perform the Final Salute at 1:30 P.M. prior to the service.  Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens.  Mercer County Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military grave rites.  Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, January 22 at Dudley Memorial from 1:00 P.M. until the hour of the service.
