THOMAS JACKSON TABOR, SR.
Thomas Jackson Tabor, Sr, 77 of Falls Mills, VA, went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 13, 2016. Born in Abbs Valley, VA, he moved to Falls Mills, VA with his family in 1945 and remained a lifelong resident there. Thomas was a 1956 graduate of Graham High School and attended Bluefield State College and Bluefield College of Evangelism. A U.S. Army veteran, he worked for United Piece Dye Works-Bluefield plant and Pocahontas Truck Sales during his career and retired from Huff Ford in Wytheville. He co-owned, with his wife, Humfrys in Mercer Mall for ten years. He enjoyed attending Graham High G-Men home football games, liked to garden and could fix or build just about anything. An active member of Falls Mills Christian Church, he loved his church family, sang in the choir and looked forward each year to the annual Christmas Cantata, in which he participated. He deeply loved his family and was proud of his children and grandchildren. Over the years he enjoyed the company of his dog, family pets and the neighborhood dogs: Newman, Cosmo, Amos, Sampson, Oreo, Kramer and Momma Dog.
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, George Dewey and Etta Mae Ratcliffe Tabor and one brother, Donald Dewey Tabor. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Velva Lane Jackson Tabor; sisters-in-law and brothers-in law: Margaret Whitley Tabor of Bluefield, VA, Porter and Ellen Jackson of Baltimore, MD, Norman and Gerri Jackson of Baltimore, MD, Mary Nichols of Sterling, VA and Josie Robbins of Fredericksburg, VA; four children: Thomas J Tabor, Jr and wife, Karen of New Tazewell, TN, Edwina Tabor Taylor and husband, Matthew of Athens, AL, Debra Tabor Brewster and husband, Thomas of Falls Mills, VA and Adam Tabor of Seattle, WA; seven grandchildren: Brittany Tabor, Bryan Tabor and wife, Brooke, Brittany Taylor, Mallory Taylor Glenn and husband, Warren, London Ray, Sahara Brewster and Milan Brewster; six great-grandchildren: Christian, Gabriel, Chloe and Lilly Braelyn and Brylea; many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Monday, May 16, 2016 at Dudley Memorial Mortuary from 6-8 p.m. Funeral service will be Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Falls Mills Christian Church. Burial will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery.
