Sidney Otis
Nash, Jr.
Jul 15, 1941 — Jul 27, 2020
Evans
Sidney Otis Nash, Jr.
Sidney Otis Nash, Jr., age 79, formerly of Springville, VA, passed away on Monday, July 27, at his Evans, GA home following a long illness. He was born on July 15, 1941 to the late Sidney Otis and Hester Brooks Nash.
Sid was a graduate of Graham High School (1959), Bluefield College (1961) and Virginia Polytechnic Institute (1963). He married Violet Lou Blizzard on February 21, 1963. After graduating second in his class at the Virginia Tech School of Business, Sid began a career in sales with Humble Oil Refining Company in Orange, VA. He was later promoted to a position as a Retail Training Instructor in Richmond, VA.
Sid and Lou moved back home to the mountains in 1969 where he began working for Top Value Enterprises. In 1973, Sid joined Flat Top Insurance Agency as a salesman, where over his twenty-nine year career with Flat Top and later Acordia, he rose to Senior Vice President and Sales Manager. Sid was a natural salesman who found success through easy conversation that disguised his hard work and diligence. He recalled his years there fondly and was proud of his success, but even more so the success of his teams.
Sid was a member of Springville Christian Church, being baptized there as a young man. He was a charter member of Mountain View Church of Christ where he taught the adult Sunday school class for twenty seven years. He enjoyed attending Christway Christian Church in Evans, GA when his health allowed and the visits and prayers from Minister Barry Clanton when it was not.
Sid is survived by his wife of 57 years, by his children, Sidney Otis Nash III (Kirby) of Columbia, SC, Suanne Nash Wohlford (Neil) of Augusta, GA, grandchildren Abigail Nash Wohlford, Rachel Nash Wohlford, Nathan Sidney Wohlford and Benjamin Guy Wohlford, his sister, Janet Nash Johnston (Buddy) of Williamsburg, VA, multiple nieces and nephews and his treasured sisters and brothers in-law.
In 2004, Sid and Lou retired to Evans, GA. Sid's retirement was filled with daily visits and interactions with his precious grandchildren and family. He also continued to cheer on the Hokies and babysit his grand-pups. He was well-known to many neighbors and friends as "Poppy."
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Kylee Pegram. Her love and dedication brought peace and comfort to not only Sid, but his family. Also, we must recognize the lifelong friendship Sid shared with Sherman Branch, Jr. They met as children, attended school together, married sisters, started a church and lived next to each other over the last 13 years. When Sid's health declined, Sherman continued to encourage and help in every way. His dedication is a model for us all.
Due to COVID-19 concerns, a private graveside service was held at Grandview Memory Gardens. Bill Kinser, Sid's brother-in-law, served as officiant. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that friends consider a memorial donation to Christway Christian Church, 4004 Prescott Drive, Augusta, GA 30907.
