In Loving Memory of Shirley Ann Bradford
October 29, 1940 – July 13, 2025
Shirley Ann Bradford, age 85, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2025, in Morrisville, North Carolina, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on October 29, 1940, in Clarksburg, West Virginia, Shirley built a life defined by care, quiet strength, and a deep devotion to her family.
For over 70 years, she called Bluefield, Virginia, home—a place where her kindness and tireless spirit left a lasting mark. Shirley worked for many years as a Nurse's Aide at Bluefield Regional Hospital, where she brought comfort and compassion to those in need. After retirement, she moved to Morrisville, NC, where she spent her final 15 years close to family.
Shirley had a gift for making others feel at home—especially in her kitchen, where her cooking became the backdrop to countless cherished memories. Her meals were more than just food; they were expressions of love. She found joy in life's simple pleasures: a good word search puzzle, a quiet moment with family, and the laughter of her great-grandchildren filling the room.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Paul Newton Bradford Sr., her sister Waneta Bellamy, and her parents, Omar and Alta Swiger. Their memory lived on in her stories and in the steady grace with which she lived her life.
Shirley is survived by her siblings; Connie Birkholzs of Bluefield Va and Richard Swiger of Myrtle Beach SC. Her devoted children; Paul Bradford and Shelia Dishman of Morrisville NC. She was the proud grandmother of Justin Bradford and wife Lauren of Cary, NC; Garrett Dishman and wife Haley of Falls Mills, VA; Kayla Mills and husband Matthew of Tazewell, VA; and BJ Dishman and wife Sarah of Bluefield, VA. She leaves behind ten beautiful great-grandchildren who were her pride and joy.
Though her presence will be deeply missed, Shirley's legacy lives on in the hearts of those she loved so dearly. Her quiet strength, her warm smile, and the way she made every person feel seen and loved—these are the gifts she leaves behind.
A celebration of Shirleys life will be held Thursday July 31 at 1:00 PM at Dudley Memorial Chapel, with reverend Gary Lyons officiating, friends may visit with the family from 12:00 noon till the hour of service.
