SAMUEL B WELLS

Samuel B. Wells, 88 of Bluefield, VA, passed away Sunday, April 1, 2018 at the Veterans Hospital, Beckley, WV. Born in Stotesbury, WV, he was the last surviving child of 10, born to the late Frank and Bertha Henry Wells. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served 14 months in Korea.  He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service in Bluefield, VA, retiring in 1985. He also retired from the West Virginia Army National Guard in the same year.  Sam was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church.  He completed hiking the 2100 mile Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine in 1987.  In 1954, Sam became a Mason and was the Grand Commander of the Grand Commandery of Knights Templar of Virginia from 1995-1996.  His first wife, Ann Scott Wells and daughter Patricia Mowrey preceded him in death.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife: Ping Chen Wells of Bluefield, VA; his son: Michael Wells (Anita) of Bluefield, VA; son-in-law: David Mowrey of Bluefield, VA; step-son: Chao Chen of New York; grandchildren: Aaron Wells (Misty Keech) of Falls Mills, VA and Adam Wells (Anna) of Ft. Bragg, NC; great-grandchildren: Benjamin Wells, Dakota Taylor and Courtney Wells.

A service to celebrate Sam's life will be Saturday, April 7, 2018 at 1:00 P.M. at Dudley Memorial Chapel with Rev. Ray Amos and Dr. Don Scott officiating. The Harman Lodge #222 A.F. & A.M. will conduct Masonic Rites at the conclusion of the service. Entombment will follow at Grandview Memory Mausoleum. Military Rites will be conducted at the mausoleum by the VFW Post #9696 and the Pocahontas American Legion Post #14.

Friends may visit with the family on Friday, April 6, 2018 at Dudley Memorial from 6-8 p.m.
