RUTH DOROTHEA FOX

Deeply loved and respected by all who knew her, Ruth Dorothea Fox, of Bluefield, VA,  transitioned from this world on Monday, November 7, 2022 at Princeton Community Hospital, Princeton, WV.  Ruth Dorothea Kelly was born on November 22, 1945 in Bluefield, WV to the late Willie Lee Kelly and Naomi Kelly.  She was the oldest of two children.  Her younger brother, Willie Kelly, Jr. preceded her in death.  In the early 60's, the family left Bluefield and relocated to Brooklyn, NY for better opportunities.

Ruth, Known to her friends as "Ruthie", attended Erasmus Hall High School.  In 1964, Ruth married David William Diggs and of this union two children were born, her daughter, Renee Naomi Diggs, who preceded her in death and her son, David William Diggs, Jr.

In 1968, Ruth began her career at New York's Bell Telephone Company, today's AT&T.  Her hard work paid off and she was promoted to a supervisory position.

Ruth married the late Wilbur Fox around 1975.  In 1988, Ruth retired from the phone company after 20 years of service and she and her husband returned to Bluefield.  Sadly, Ruth suffered a stroke in 1999 and was a resident of Westwood Care Center until she was hospitalized for pneumonia.

Those left to celebrate and honor Ruth are her son: David; daughter-in-law: Joyce Gilliard; grandchildren: Shakiya, Tyra and David III; great-grandchild: Kamari; cousins: Eddie Powers, Thomas Powers, Ricky Powers, Lillie Powers and Tee Powers; other family members and friends.

A service to celebrate Ruth's life will be held Friday, November 11, 2022 at Dudley Memorial Chapel at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. James Palmer officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery in Bluefield, VA.  Friends may visit with the family on Friday, at Dudley Memorial from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of the service.
