Obituary

RICHARD ALLEN BROOKS

Richard Allen Brooks, 73 of Bluefield, VA, passed away Friday, August 09, 2024 at his home.  Born in Bluefield, VA, he was the son of the late Henry Stuart Brooks, Sr and Lula Mae Gillespie Brooks.  Richard had served his country in the United States Army, stationed in Germany, during the Vietnam Era.  He had worked for numerous companies in his life's career and retired from the Tazewell County School System after 17 years of service. Richard was an outdoorsman and was a longtime member of the Fall Mills Fishing Club.  He was a man who was willing to help anyone, would teach you what he knew and would give you the shirt off of his back.  He would often reminisce for hours about the "good ole days", whether good or bad. He loved for folks to come to the house, anytime, sit for a spell and help him work a puzzle. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings: Katherine Farley, Janice Lewis and Henry Brooks, Jr; his granddaughter: Meghan Nicole Ware. Richard was a loving, devoted brother, son, husband, father and grandfather.

He will be lovingly missed by his wife of 50 years: Mae Vance Brooks; daughters: Julie Brooks of Tazewell, VA, Tracy Dalton and spouse, Randy Hancock of Wytheville, VA and Vicki Ware of Bluefield, VA; sisters: Janie Lewis of Bluefield, VA, Joann Lewis of NC and Connie Koen and husband, Jimmy of Bluefield, VA; grandchildren: Clifford Ryan McPeak, Garrett Lyn Dalton, Zachary Allen McPeak, Isaac Joshua Dalton, Michael Jesse Ware and Katie Ann Brooks.

A service to celebrate Richard's life will be held Monday, August 12, 2024 at 1:00 P.M. at Dudley Memorial Chapel with Chris Johnson officiating.   Burial will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery, where the Mercer County Honor Guard will conduct Military Rites.  Caleb Lewis, Clifford McPeak, Michael Ware, Garrett Dalton, Isaac Dalton, Zachary McPeak and John Lewis will serve as pallbearers.

Friends may visit with the family on Monday at Dudley Memorial from 12:00 P.M. until the hour of the service.
