POLLYANNA YOST LUCAS

Pollyanna Yost Lucas, 91, of Lebanon TN., formally of Bluefield VA, passed away peacefully Sunday, March 03, 2019, at the Southern Manor Living Center in Lebanon, Tennessee.

Polly was born April 24, 1927, in Bluefield, Virginia, daughter of the late Fred and Pauline Yost. She married the love her life, Thomas Felts Lucas on July 16, 1949. Polly was preceded in death by her loving husband Thomas F. Lucas, her daughter Jeanette Faye (Netsy) Lucas Staley, and her brother Ronald K. Yost.

Polly attended Graham High School in Bluefield, Virginia and graduated in 1945. She continued her education at Radford University where she earned a B.S. degree in Education and was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society. Later, she returned to Radford to earn a Master of Science in Education degree. Polly began her teaching career at Pocahontas Elementary School in Pocahontas, Virginia before making a change to secondary education. She then taught English and social studies at both Tazewell High School in Tazewell, Virginia and Graham High School in Bluefield, Virginia. In 1965, Polly became a guidance counselor at Graham High School and continued in that position until her retirement in 1983.

Polly had a passion for reading and was a lifelong learner. She was also an avid music lover and was a member of several social and civic organizations. Polly attended the First United Methodist Church in Bluefield, Virginia. Following retirement from Tazewell County School s, Polly and Tom moved to Ellenton, Florida where they enjoyed swimming, traveling and the companionship of many friends.

She is survived by her brothers  Leonard C. Yost, Frederick R. Yost; sons Thomas F. (Tom) Lucas, Jr. (Barbara) Wilmington, NC; Frederick Carl (Ric) Lucas (Cathy) Roanoke, VA; daughter Kathryn Anne (Kathy) Richardson (Rusty) Lebanon, TN; son-in-law Roger Staley (Martha) in Newton, NC; nine grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at Dudley Memorial Mortuary, 729 Virginia Ave. Bluefield, VA. on Saturday, March 16 ^th at noon with visitation with family scheduled one hour prior. Burial will follow the memorial service at Maple Hill Cemetery in Bluefield, Virginia. The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to American Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in memory of Pollyanna Yost Lucas.
