PEGGY LOUISE MATTHEWS ATWELL

Peggy Louise Matthews Atwell, 78 of Bluefield, VA, passed away Saturday, December 12, 2020 at her home. Born in Bluefield, VA, she was the daughter of the late Rufus Howard Matthews, Sr and Sybil Hawkins Matthews. Peggy was a member of Graham Presbyterian Church. During her lifetime, she had worked at Farmbest, Citizens Insurance and Real Estate, TCI and Walmart. Peggy also enjoyed bowling in the leagues at Mountaineer Bowling Lanes. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister: Alice M. Davis.

Those left to cherish her memory are her son: Jeff Atwell and wife, Cynthia of Bluefield, WV; her siblings: Rosie Griffith, Grey Kiser and husband, Stan, Linda Gillespie and husband, Carl, Suzie Matthews all of Bluefield, VA, Rufus H. "Sonny" Matthews, Jr of Bastian, VA and Walter P. "Buddy" Matthews of Bluefield, VA; a host of nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, whom she loved dearly.

A graveside service celebrating Peggy's life will be held Friday, December 18, 2020 at 2:00 P.M. at Maple Hill Cemetery in Bluefield, VA with Pastor Randy Sargent officiating. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at Maple Hill Cemetery by 1:45 P.M.
