Nancy Gale (Tabor) Smothers

Nancy Gale Tabor Smothers, age 80, of Bluefield, VA, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Friday, December 27, 2019, at Bluefield Regional Medical Center in Bluefield, WV. Nancy was born at Falls Mills, VA, on April 10, 1939, to the late Solomon P. Tabor, Sr. and Alma Zane Wagner Tabor of Falls Mills, VA. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Albert "Pete" Smothers, and paternal grandparents Hugh and Rebecca Sluss Tabor, and by her maternal grandparents, Charles McClelland Wagner, Sr. and Lottie Wagner. She was also preceded in death by brothers Charles Addison "Buddy" Tabor, Carrol Dean Tabor, and by sisters, Shirley Jean Murakami, Charlotte Ann Ramsey, and Judith Elaine White. She is survived by her only daughter, Kimberly Gale Mohr and husband George of New Bern, NC, and grandsons William Jason (Samantha) Haddock of Concord, NC and John Daniel Haddock of Greenville, NC. Other survivors are sisters Betty Zane Kabara of Goodyear, AZ; Margaret Eunice Zuliani of Garden Grove, CA; Elizabeth Jane Smith of Princeton, WV; her beloved fur-baby Miss Muffin, several nieces and nephews, dear sister-in-law Maggie Jane (Ben) Muncy, and special friends Buck and Sandy Kegley, and Bill and Daryl Watkins. The Smothers family would like to thank the special caregivers, Deb Wooley, Carolyn Graham, Garnett Wine, and Connie Wornal for their care and compassion during the final months of Nancy's illness. They were angels, filling Nancy's final months with laughter, companionship, and religious fellowship and will never be forgotten.

Nancy graduated from Graham High School in Bluefield, VA, in 1956 and then went on to attend and graduate McLains Business College in Bluefield, WV. She began her career at Blaydes Eye Clinic relocating to College Park, MD in 1966 when she became Executive Secretary to the President of Bowles Fluidics in Silver Spring, MD. In 1977, Nancy and the family returned to Bluefield, VA, where she went to work as a Secretary at Southwest Virginia National Bank, that later merged to Dominion Bank, where she worked her way up to become a Mortgage Loan officer, retiring in 1993. She was a member of the Board of Directors of the Bluefield VA Business and Professional Association and chair of that organizations Project Graduation for graduating high school seniors.

Nancy cherished many friends in life, met through work and her 42 years in the Double Gates community of Bluefield, VA. She and Pete enjoyed many winters in their RV in Winter Haven, FL. Her love of sports carried over from her days as a star player and fierce competitor on the Graham G-Girl's Women's Basketball team where she helped the team advance to the state championship in 1955-56. She spent many Saturdays and Sundays enjoying watching college basketball, the Washington Redskins, and later Virginia Tech Hokies. She loved solving crossword puzzles and working the daily Jumble. Nancy was of the Methodist faith, and as a child, attended Macedonia United Methodist Church in Falls Mills, VA., previously attended Graham Christian Church, and in the past few years enjoyed the television ministries of Revs. Matt and John Hagee and Joel Osteen.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to be made to Legacy Hospice, Inc., 1963 2 nd St., Richlands, VA, 24641. Adhering to Nancy's wishes, there will be no public visitation. Entombment services will be held at Grandview Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Bluefield, VA where friends may gather Tuesday, December 31, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. with the Reverend Donnie Lee Bailey, Jr. officiating.
