MILDERED RUTH LAMPERT
Mildred Ruth Brooks Lampert of Bluefield, VA passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 15 at the age of 95. A lifelong member of the Bluefield community, Ruth was the daughter of the late J. Frank Brooks and Nannie Snell Brooks.
Ruth was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her grandchildren affectionately knew her as Nanny. She was seen as a second mom to many and never hesitated to open her home to others. Ruth's greatest source of joy was the time she spent in the kitchen cooking for family and friends. The love she shared through food could be found in the school cafeteria, at church dinners, and during family gatherings. Ruth always made sure there was an extra seat at the table and a plate of macaroni and cheese for any hungry friend. The only place she spent more time than in the kitchen was with the Lord. A testament to her bold faith is the countless notebooks full of prayer requests and praises scattered through her home. She spent time each day circling those close to her in prayer. Ruth was a faithful member of Memorial Baptist Church and in later years attended Lilly Grove Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, James "Jim" Lampert; granddaughter Tammy Steele; sisters Gladys Crawford and Gail Brooks; brother Will Tom Brooks; and longtime friend and neighbor Elinor "Iney" Higginbotham.
Ruth will be lovingly remembered by her children: Mildred Butt (Duane); Deloris Steele (Rex), Mike Lampert, Frankie Lampert (Kathy), and Jewel Woodson (Bruce); sister: Helen Chapman (Gene); grandchildren: Dawn Brewer (Brent), Jonathan Butt (Marie), Aaron Butte (Katie), Natalie Fields (Adam), Lauren Woodson Hall (Matt), Joshua Lampert, and Ryan Woodson (Katie); numerous great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and a host of extended family and friends.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Ruth's caregivers Margaret, Mary, Tina, Tammy, and the staff at Legacy Hospice.
A service to celebrate Ruth's life will be held Monday, September 20, 2021 at 1:00 pm at Dudley Memorial Chapel with Reverend Hugh Cole and Reverend Bruce Woodson officiating. Friends may visit with the family at 12:00 pm. A graveside service will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens.
