Maurice Everette "Smokey" Blaylock of Princeton, formerly of Nemours, VA passed away peacefully Tuesday July 3 rd at Christian Care Assisted Living facility in Princeton WV. He was preceded in death by his wife Suzanne C. Blaylock, parents Maurice and Lyle Dishman Blaylock as well as his stepmother Elsie McNeer Blaylock, step-brothers Richard and Jack Fuqua and step-sister Joanne Fuqua. Smokey is survived by his children Stephanie Danko and husband Paul of Abingdon VA, Stephen Blaylock and wife Tanya of Jacksonville FL, Scott Blaylock and wife April of Princeton WV, grandchildren, Emily and Anna Danko, Wesley and Halen Blaylock, Jordon, Abigail, and Sophie Blaylock and great grandson Lee James Keener as well and one step brother James Fuqua. He also leaves behind his special care givers at Christian Care.
Smokey was born at home in Nemours VA on August 13 th 1938. He graduated from Pocahontas High School in 1955. He attended Bluefield College for 2 years and graduated from Emory and Henry College in 1961. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1961-1964. Smokey was a career Nationwide Insurance Agent in Bluefield VA. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Bluefield VA where he was a founding member of the Philosopher's Class. He was also a charter member of Nemours Ruritan. If not spending time with his family and friends, Smokey could be found working on his family farm or reeling in a small mouth bass.
Family will receive friends on Friday July 6 th from 6-8 pm at Dudley Memorial Mortuary in Bluefield VA. Funeral services will be held at First United Methodist Church in Bluefield VA Saturday July 7 th at 12:00 pm; interment will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Todd and Tyler Furrow, Charlie Stacy, Darrin Coe, Scott Morris and Keith Spencer.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church: 200 South College Avenue Bluefield VA 24605 or Christian Care: 186 Winfrey Lane, Princeton WV 24740.
