MARGARET MITCHEM BYRD
Margaret Mitchem Byrd, 92, of 1598 Big Branch Road, Bluefield, VA, passed away Sunday, October 11, 2015 at her home. She was born in Yards, VA on September 6, 1923 to the late Davis and Cynthia Bowman. Margaret lived most of her life in Big Branch. She also lived in Cullman, AL. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and loved spending time with her family. She loved to talk and never met a stranger. Margaret was baptized on July 30, 1950 in the Falls Mills Dam. She had been a member of Falls Mills Christian Church and Hillcrest Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her first husband of 36 years, Nelson Mitchem and her second husband of 25 years, John Byrd, step-son, Emmett Mitchem, 6 brothers and 5 sisters. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Those left to cherish her memory are her sons: Jerry Mitchem and wife, Irene of Danville, KY, Larry Mitchem and wife, Linda of Falls Mills, VA; daughter: Brenda Mitchem Matthews and husband, Ronnie of Bluefield, VA; step-son: Steven Bryd and former wife, Belinda Byrd of Cullman, AL; step-daughter: Shirley Crockett of Bluefield, VA. Grandchildren include: Dave Mitchem and Teresa of Falls Mills, VA. Lisa, Ronnie and Allison Hager of Bluefield, VA. Beth, Mike, Megan and Logan Mallory of Princeton, WV. Judy, Donnie, Arissa and Troy Anderson of Falls Mills, VA. Diana and Tommy Pennington and kids, Drake and Mason Farmer and Kaylee Pennington of Danville, KY. Brandon, Rebecca, Collin and Harper Mitchem of Falls Mills, VA. Jeffrey Byrd of Cordova, TN. Beatrice Hagemore of Cullman, AL. Step-grandchildren: Sammy Mitchem, Elizabeth Hicks, Ronnie Crockett, David Crockett, Beverly Smith, Frankie Lowe and Traci Geno. Several nieces and nephews. The special friends of MSA, the staff of Bluefield Internal Medicine, Dr Phade, Ann Dalton, Pam Ward and all her caregivers.
Friends are invited to visit with the family Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at Dudley Memorial from 5-7 P.M. Following the visitation, a service to celebrate Mrs. Byrd's life will be held at 7:00 P.M. with Pastor Ken Sprinkle officiating. Grave side services will be held Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at Grandview Memory Gardens Mausoleum Chapel. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at Dudley Memorial by 10:30 A.M. Pallbearers will be Troy Anderson, Donnie Anderson, Ronnie Hager, Mike Mallory, Ronnie Matthews, Brandon Mitchem, Dave Mitchem and Tommy Pennington.
