Larry Blaine “Red” Mahood, age 77, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Luke and Zane Mahood, and his son, Phil Mahood.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Jennifer, of Surf City, NC; his children, Blaine Mahood and wife Megan of Raleigh, NC, and daughter Maggie Nelson and husband Jack of Asheville, NC; his grandchildren, Declan Mahood and Lauren Nelson; his sister, Wanda Wood; his brothers, Bob Mahood (Vicki) and David Mahood (Cathye); and many extended family members and friends.
Larry will be remembered for his patience, gentleness, and unwavering kindness. He loved his family fiercely and lived his life quietly, always putting others before himself.
A man of deep faith, Larry served faithfully as a deacon while a member of Memorial Baptist Church, and later became a member of First United Methodist Church. He was a proud graduate of Graham High School and East Tennessee State University. He spent his career with AEP, from which he later retired. Larry loved the music of the Grateful Dead and found comfort in their songs. Throughout his life, he was also a proud owner of several dogs, whom he loved dearly. Above all else, Larry was a devoted family man. His love was constant, steady, and unconditional, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to call him husband, dad, Pop-Pop, brother, uncle, or friend.
A visitation will be held on October 3rd at 11:00 a.m., with the funeral service immediately following at 12:00 p.m. Both services will be held at First United Methodist Church, 200 S. College Ave., Bluefield, VA 24605.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to a charity of your choice in his memory
