JOHN THOMAS "TOM" TIBBS JR.
John Thomas "Tom" Tibbs Jr, 68 of Tazewell, VA, passed away Saturday, November 14, 2015. Born in Bluefield, WV, he was the son of Ellen Noel Tibbs of Bluefield, VA and the late John Thomas Tibbs. He was retired from Carter Machinery as Service Manager. Tom was very proud of his service in the United States Air Force, having served one tour in Vietnam. He was a member of the Vietnam Veterans of American, Princeton Chapter #628 and the VFW Post #9696. Tom was an avid hunter. He was also a member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Tibbs Layne and his brother, Gary Allen Tibbs.
He will be lovingly and affectionately remembered by his mother: Ellen Tibbs of Bluefield, VA; his wife of 46 years: Stephenia Strike Tibbs of Tazewell, VA; his son: Casey R Tibbs and wife, Doniell of Waynesboro, VA; his brother: Christopher Shane Tibbs of Bluefield, VA; his grandson: Tyler Jay Tibbs of Waynesboro, VA.
A service to celebrate Tom's life will be held Thursday, November 19, 2015 at Dudley Memorial Chapel at 2:00 p.m. with Rev Russ Hatfield officiating. Interment will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Military Grave Rites will be conducted by the VFW Post #9696 and the Pocahontas American Legion Post #14. Friends are invited to visit with the family Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at Dudley Memorial from 6-8 p.m.
