JOAN CHRISTIAN THOMPSON

Joan Christian Thompson, 78 of North Tazewell, VA, was called home to be with her Lord, Friday, December 10, 2021 at home after enduring a lengthy illness.  She was born in Tazewell County, VA and was the daughter of the late W B (Blaine) Christian and LouElla (Lou) Vencill Christian.  She was also preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Jack Harold Thompson.  She was the head majorette at Tazewell High School when she met the love of her life, an athletic scholar from Graham High School that resulted in years of fun rivalries during each sport season.  She was a member of the Tip Top United Methodist Church.  She dedicated her entire life from an early age to support her faith from being a pianist, choir director and providing special programs for all to enjoy.  She held various positions within the Coal Mining Community and Equipment Manufacturing, eventually retiring from Consol Energy, Inc.  Still eager to provide a service to her community, she worked at Bluefield Regional Medical Center to complete her goals until her final retirement.

Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Jack Zane Thompson and wife, Brenda of Bastian, VA; one brother, Scott L. Christian and wife, Renae Stillwell Christian; and many nieces, nephews and family members including her church family. Also the family would like to include the gracious and loving health care providers that worked effortlessly to provide comfort and support to the family by their special abilities along with prayers over the past few years, "Brandy Stowers, Judy Lemaster, Jessica Hunt and Lola Click."

A celebration of life service for Joan will be held Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at 1:00 P.M. at Dudley Memorial Chapel with Rev. Jim Horn officiating. Interment will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens.  Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Keith Thompson, Frank Mitchell, Barry Mitchell, Bill Christian, William E. Hall and Sam Comer.

Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday at Dudley Memorial from 12:00 P.M. until the hour of the service.

While flowers are appreciated, it is the family's request that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Tip Top United Methodist Church, c/o: Margaret Pauley, 4488 Wittens Mill Road, North Tazewell, VA  24630.
