Janice Marie Howery Witt, age 94 of Bluefield, VA, died Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at Bluefield, VA. Born January 3, 1922 at Pisgah in Tazewell County, VA, she was the wife of the late Charles C. Witt and a daughter of the late James W. Howery and Una Mays Howery. Janice was a graduate of Berea College and later earned her Master's Degree at Virginia Polytechnic Institute. She devoted her forty-year career to teaching English and Literature in Tazewell County Public Schools. She was a member of the Pisgah United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by six sisters, Myrtle Howery, Trula Jones, Mays Ball, Lyndall Musick, Charlotte Harman, and Sadie Davidson; three brothers, Marvin Dennis Howery, William Daniel Howery, and James Donald Howery; three nephews, J.J. Jones, Sam Jones and Eddie Barrett; and two nieces, Christine Davidson and Norma Jean Davis. She is survived by three nieces, Dee Dee Harman, Patricia Dietrich, and Rebecca Holt; and five nephews, Eli Jones, Larry Jones, Marvin Howery, Jr., Daniel Howery, and Charles Howery. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 9, 2016, at Dudley Funeral Home in Bluefield, VA with the Rev. Leann K. Crandall officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, April 8, 2016.
