Obituary

Janet Lee Vance (Momma Jan)
Janet Lee Vance, 71, of Bluefield, VA, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, surrounded by her loving husband and children.

Affectionately known as "Momma Jan," she dedicated her life to service, community, and, above all, family. She would have celebrated 51 years of marriage with her beloved husband, Ray, on December 14th.

A Life of Compassion and Care
While Janet was a successful entrepreneur and a practicing beautician, her enduring passion was helping children. For nearly 40 years, she and her husband dedicated themselves to nurturing countless youth in Tazewell County, running a local daycare and later opening a group home for foster children. Her compassion left an indelible mark on the lives of all the children they cared for.

Janet was a celebrated homemaker who loved spoiling her family with homemade meals. She enjoyed browsing recipe books, shopping, visiting Dollywood, and traveling to see her family and friends.

Family
Janet is survived by her devoted husband, Arthur Ray Vance.

Her legacy continues through her loving children: Jamie, Lovonne, Ashley, Anthony, Marti, Rayanna, Rayme, and Raygan.

She was a cherished grandmother to Dakota, Oaklynn, Paislynn, and Jaxon.

She is also survived by her sister, Linda, her brother, Bill, and her chosen sisters, Alice and JD, as well as many special nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents, William Reece Lovell and Beatrice Lucille Lovell; her sisters, Susie Lovell and Patty Burns; and her brothers, Michael "Butch" Starling and Howard Lovell.

Services
In accordance with Janet's wishes, she has been cremated, and there will be no public viewing or funeral service. A small reception to honor her life will be held for family and close friends. The family asks that you please contact them directly for details regarding the time and location.
