JAMES EDWARD KOEN

James Edward Koen, 89, of Bluefield, VA, passed away peacefully at his home Sunday, March 24, 2024. Born in Millry, AL, he was the son of the late Oliver Benjamin and Dora Todd Koen.  He was of the Pentecostal faith and enjoyed going to the Guiding Light Worship Center, where he was a member. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, tending to all the flowers in the yard, sitting in the porch swing watching the deer and the birds and family get togethers for cookouts. A twenty year career veteran, he served his country in the United States Navy.  He loved his family whole heartedly and had nothing but kind words for everyone he met.  He will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 70 years, Shirley Evelyn Koen; daughter, Patricia Diane Koen; son, Carl Edward Koen; brother, Robert Lee Koen; grandson, Benjamin Koen.

Left to cherish his memory are his sons: Jimmy Dean Koen and wife, Connie of Bluefield, VA, Bobby Gene Koen and wife, Rhonda of Bluefield, WV, Tommy Eugene Koen and wife, Dreama of Stoneville, NC, Ronney Dale Koen and wife, Doreen of Princeton, WV and his caregiver and daughter, Judy Ann Koen of the home; brother: Oliver Koen, Jr and wife, Joyce of Millry, AL; 16 Grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 6 great great-grandchildren.

A service to celebrate James' life will be held Thursday, March 28, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. at Dudley Memorial Chapel with his son, Bobby Koen officiating. Interment will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery.  Ryan Koen, Justin Koen, Bradley Koen, Daniel Koen, Matthew Lewis and Jacob Koen will serve as pallbearers.  The Mercer County Honor Guard will conduct Military graveside rites.

Friends may visit with the family on Thursday at the funeral home from 1:00 P.M. until the hour of the service.

The family would like to say a very special "Thanks" to the MSA Hospice team that took such good care of our dad.  Thank you to Luke, Amanda, Paige, Teresa, Crystal, granddaughters, Ocean and Skyler and daughter, Judy Ann for their kind actions and care during the illness of Mr. James Koen.
