JAMES MONROE JOHNSON
James Monroe (Jim) Johnson, 67 of Bluefield, WV, passed away Sunday, September 18, 2016. Born February 5, 1949 in Raven, VA, he was the son of the late Oscar and Thenia White Johnson. Jim served in the US Navy on the USS Lipan at Pearl Harbor. He worked as a carpenter for many years and continued his career with the Norfolk Southern Railroad in the bridge department and in the Bluefield yard as a carpenter. Jim enjoyed camping and fishing with his family and friends. He expressed his thoughts about the community with frequent letters to the editor. Jim also loved to dance, sing, write poetry and work crossword puzzles. He was a music buff, history enthusiast, NASCAR loving, Redskins fan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers: Olfalee, Garrett, Otis and Curtis Johnson; sisters: Betty Washburn, Mary Nelson, Emogene Helbert, Delphia Bass and Helen Yeary.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 28 years, Brenda Johnson; son: Gary Remines and wife, Rachel; 4 granddaughters: Jessica Stevens and husband, Shannon, Cassie Dillow and husband, Jerry, Grace and Sarah Remines; 3 great-grandchildren: Savannah and Maci Dillow and Matthew Stevens; sister: Mavis Johnson; brothers: Dennis, Jerry and Doug Johnson and the lively loving Yorkie of the home, Jacob Taylor (Jake) Johnson.
A memorial service to celebrate Jim's life will be held Friday, September 23, 2016 at 7:00 P.M. at Dudley Memorial Chapel with Randy Ball officiating. Friends may visit with the family on Friday, September 23, 2016 at Dudley Memorial from 6:00 P.M. until the hour of the service.
