JAMES DAVID "JD" "JIM" MELVIN, JR

James David "JD" "Jim" Melvin, Jr, 71 of Kansas City, MO passed away Thursday, June 03, 2021 after a long battle with cancer. JD was the first of six children born to James David Melvin Sr and Rachel Green Melvin. JD was raised in Tip Top, VA and was a graduate of Graham High School. He furthered his education attending SVCC, then later attending Bluefield State College. While attending college, he was employed by Graham Florist and late Harrison Exxon. In 1972, JD enlisted in the Air Force. During his time in the Air Force, he attended Park College, where he later earned his degree in Psychology. After completing his active duty, he became employed by the US Postal Service, where he retired in 2005 as a postal supervisor after 37 years of service. JD was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his infant sister, Melinda Melvin.

He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Debbie Melvin and their two sons, Stephen Melvin and wife, Laura and David Melvin and wife, Kari; three grandchildren: Braydon, Lexie and Reese all of Kansas City, MO; two brothers: Tommy Melvin and wife, Debbie of Bluefield, VA and Walter Melvin of Tazewell, VA; two sisters: Onnie Thompson and husband, Scott of Tip Top, VA and Karen Melvin of Tip Top, VA; and a host of nephews and nieces. JD will be greatly missed by all. We love you!

JD was laid to rest Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at Terrace Park Cemetery in Kansas City, MO.
