HOWARD BLAINE FARMER, SR.

Howards Blaine Farmer, Sr, of Winchester, VA, went to his Heavenly Home from Evergreen Nursing Home on Wednesday, February 14, 2024.  Howard was born in Bluefield, VA on March 10, 1935 to the late Edward J. Farmer and Gracie Ann Amos Farmer.  Howard was a U.S. Army veteran that served his country and was stationed overseas in Germany.  He joined the Army in 1958, received the Good Conduct Medal and was honorably discharged in 1960.  Howard worked for a tree trimming company for a while before becoming a professional truck driver for North American Van Lines most of his life. He logged over a million miles driving for them. He loved singing.  He sang country and western and gospel songs.  Many times he would sing in the church he was attending.  He would often quote Bible verses.  He enjoyed collecting metal model cars and trucks.  Howard always enjoyed taking friends and family out to eat at restaurants.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers: Edward, James, Marvin, Sam and Claude; three sisters: Francis, Evelyn and Macie; his wife: Nancy Briley-Farmer.

He is survived by his children: H. Blaine Farmer, Jr (Melanie) and Ronald E. Farmer, Sr; grandchildren: Katelyn Farmer, Ronald Farmer, Jr, Matthew Farmer, Joshua Ramsay and Sarah Ramsay; 2 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews; step-children: Deborah Jones (Donald), George Wynkoop (Robin), Donna Wynkoop, Glenn Wynkoop (Lisa) and Walter Briley (Amy); step-grandchildren: April Wynkoop, Tammy Orlando, Amber Wynkoop, Shannon Williams, Jennifer Wynkoop (deceased), Chad Wynkoop, Jacob Briley, Caleb Briley, Eden Briley and Luke Briley; 16 step- great-grandchildren.

The family invites friends to celebrate Howard's life on Saturday, February 24, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. at Dudley Memorial Mortuary in Bluefield, VA, followed by a service at 12:00 P.M. Military honors will be presented by the Mercer County Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Foundation.
