HENRY EDWARD SWEENEY
Henry Edward Sweeney, 78 of Bluefield, VA, passed away Tuesday, February 01, 2022. Born in McDowell County, WV, he was the son of the late Willie and Lula Bella Rose Sweeney. He was a member of the Pentecostal House of Prayer. Henry never met a stranger and enjoyed riding the roads to meet and talk to friends and make new friends. He was a simple man with a fierce love for his wife and children and was a proud PaPaw to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His CB handle was "Rise" and he enjoyed hours of listening and conversing with his friends on the radio. Henry could be seen at the Farmer's Market in Tazewell weekly until his health prevented him from going. He had a passion for all animals and loved to mow his grass. His family looked forward to listening to the stories he would spin when they were together. One of his favorite things to do was to sell and trade old trinkets and things considered junk to others. Henry had worked as a coal miner and also as a lineman for the Power Company. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings: Bessie McKenzie, Shurla Sweeney, Ethel Mullins, Gladys Segars, Edith Salyers, Roxie Johnson, William Sweeney, Benny Sweeney, Rosetta Rosenbaum and Frances Lester; a granddaughter: Keisha Jean Wingo.
He will be lovingly and affectionately remembered by his wife of more than 56 years: June Viers Sweeney; his daughters: Margie Marie Hess and husband, Basal of Abbs Valley, VA, Lisa Jean Sweeney and companion, Keith Turner of Tazewell, VA and Heather Sweeney of Bluefield, WV; brother: Marion Cleve Sweeney of Bartley, WV; grandchildren: Sam McCoy of Charleston, WV, Jarrett Cole Hess and Jessica Scheffler of Abbs Valley, VA, Javonna Amarria Cuthbertson, Kyou Cuthbertson and Gavin Cuthbertson all of Bluefield, WV; great-grandchildren: Katie Cole Hess, Jessa Marie Hess, JoJo Hess, Mikey, Skylar, Kayson and Weston Wingo and Alexa Marrs; nieces and nephews too numerous to count.
A service to celebrate Henry's life will be held on Sunday, February 6, 2022 at Dudley Memorial Chapel at 12:00 P.M. with Preacher Clell Daniels officiating. Burial will follow at the Brown's Chapel Cemetery, where family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Friends may visit with the family Saturday, February 05, 2022 at Dudley Memorial from 5:00-7:00 P.M.
