He was born in Orchard, WV on March 12, 1915 to the late Cephus Doughat and Ada Blanche Brown Martin. Henry was a member of Springville Christian Church. Throughout his life he loved attending church regularly, reading his Bible, giving all glory to God and spending time with his family. He had several hobbies that included: woodworking, flying his airplane, going on nature tours and working with different electronics. He had precious stories of the days he used his Hamm Radio to connect people around the world, allowing them to talk to one another when they had no other options. Henry began achieving his business degree from West Virginia Business College in November 1935, where he later graduated in the Accounting Department. He worked for Imperial Ice Cream Company, Fairmont Foods and Virginia Foods, serving as Office Manager. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Katherine Burroughs Martin; one brother, Lee Brown Martin; one infant brother; and son, Henry Jackson Martin.
Left to cherish his memory are daughters: Beth Howell and husband, Kris of Bluefield, WV, who he made his home with the last 10 years, Jayne Belcher and husband, Charlie of Suwanee, GA, Pat McClish and husband, Michael of Salem, IN. He is also survived by grandchildren: Angel Bradley, Hope Beckett, Karol Hammond, Kris Rebuck, Tanner Bourne, Charles Belcher III, Lori Definbaugh and Debbie Stern; 11 great-grandchildren; 1 great great-grandchild and one expected March 2016. For a short time Henry was taken care of by the great staff of Hospice Compassus, where they made him feel comfortable and loved.
