EVELYN RUTH WALTERS

Evelyn Ruth Walters, 93, of Boissevain, VA, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, December 24, 2023. Born in Avondale, KY, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Polly Napier Howard.  She enjoyed gardening and canning and was a phenomenal cook. She was a member of Boissevain Baptist Church.  Affectionately known as "Big Nanna", she loved and adored her grandchildren and lavished them with attention. She was a strong-willed woman with a big heart and a passion for her family.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Arnold Howard Walters, being married 67 years at the time of his passing; siblings: Doug Howard and Doris Gibson.

She will be lovingly missed by her children: Shirley Merlo and husband, Bernie of Staffordsville, KY, Mary Walters Brooks and husband, Don of Rural Retreat, VA, Beverly Chmielewski and husband, Don of Jasper, TN and Arnold Walters of Boissevain, VA; 8 Grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sisters: Nancy Grable and husband, Bill of Kingsport, TN and Sarah Jeppson of Ewing, VA; several nieces and nephews.

A service to celebrate Evelyn's life will be held Thursday, December 28, 2023 at 3:00 P.M. at Boissevain Baptist Church with Rev. Reggie Blakewood officiating.  Friends may visit with the family at the church on Thursday from 1:30 P.M. until the hour of the service.

Evelyn will be laid to rest beside her husband on Friday, December 29, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. at Hensley Cemetery in Smith, KY.  Pallbearers will be Chris Merlo, Jason Merlo, Ray Magallanes, Grayson Grider and Jacob Willis.  Honorary pallbearer will be Jordan Walters.
