Eunice Marnelle
Wagner
May 29, 1927 — Nov 8, 2018
Bluefield
Eunice Marnelle Wagner , age 91, went home to be with her Savior on Thursday, November 8 th , following an extended illness. Eunice was born at home in Mud Fork, Virginia on May 29 th , 1927 the younger daughter of Charles McClelland and Lottie Lavinia Tabor Wagner.
She was the last surviving sibling of three brothers and a sister: Edwin Earl Wagner, Dupey Marion Wagner, Charles McClelland Wagner, Jr., and Alma Zane Wagner Tabor.
Eunice was a loving aunt to Carroll Dean Tabor (deceased), Shirley Tabor Murakami (deceased), Charlotte Tabor Ramsey (deceased), Nancy Tabor Smothers, Betty Tabor Kabara, Judith Tabor White (deceased), Margaret Eunice Tabor Zuliani, Jane Tabor Smith, Rebecca Wagner Smith, Charles McClelland Wagner, III (deceased), James William Wagner, and Patricia Wagner White, along with a host of great nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Eunice grew up and lived a peaceful, sheltered life at home with family. She loved animals and took exceptional care of her dogs and cats.
From her earliest years Eunice loved music and had a keen ear for singing the alto line of hymns and country songs she loved. She had favorite radio stations and could sing along with nearly every song, picking out the alto line.
She was a faithful reader of the Bible, King James Version, reading it from cover to cover numerous times. Failing eyesight in her later years prevented this enjoyment and comfort.
Life was secure, happy and rather predictable during her parents' lifetime. Eventually, she lived alone with the support of caring relatives and friends. A crumbling hip due to osteoporosis forced her move in the early 1980s to a nursing facility in Abingdon, Virginia where she lived for the next 35 years. During this time she was placed with a roommate, Juanita Gobble, who would become a loyal, trusted friend for upwards of the next 20 years.
Eunice thrived at the Abingdon facility until its operations ceased in the fall of 2017. She never fully recovered from the loss of her good friend's companionship and having to leave the place she had regarded as home for 37 years.
The family expresses deep appreciation to members of Macedonia United Methodist Church, to her cousin Libby Pace, to her caregiver Deborah Wooley, and to the staff of Westwood Center for their compassionate care during the difficult months of Eunice's failing health.
A service conducted by Rev. Dan Ingram and assisted by Rev. Donnie Bailey will be held at Macedonia United Methodist Church on Saturday, November 17 th with visitation beginning at 10:00 followed by the service at 11:00. Family and friends are invited to stay for lunch. In lieu of flowers, donations to Macedonia United Methodist Church may be sent to 12332 Mudfork Road, Falls Mills, Virginia 24615.
