ELLEN JEAN MITCHELL

Ellen Jean Mitchell, 79 of Bluefield, VA, passed away Wednesday, January 01, 2020 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Born in Bluefield, VA, she was the daughter of the late Billy B. and Margaret Tibbs Cecil. Jean was a longtime member of Graham Christian Church and had served in various ministries of the church over the years. She loved reading, enjoyed cross stitching, knitting and working in her flower garden. She was an X-Ray Tech for over 10 years, at various hospitals. She also worked as a teacher at Bland Street Pre-School until her retirement. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Ralph Mitchell; sister-in-law: Kay Reedy.

Those left to cherish her memory are her son: Ralph "Pete" Mitchell III of Roanoke, VA; step-daughter: Dreama Shiflett and husband, Bob of Bluefield, VA; siblings: Clarence "Eddie" Cecil and wife, Theresa of Pennsylvania, Hannah Bailey and husband, Bob of Chesapeake, VA and Jo Snyder of Florida; numerous nieces and nephews.

A service to celebrate Jean's life will be held Monday, January 6, 2020 at 10:00 A.M. at Dudley Memorial Chapel with Rev Gary Lyons officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery. Brian Bailey, Keith Bailey, Barry Bailey and Jerry Hale will serve as pallbearers. Jean's caregivers, Mary Cruz, Brenda Craft, Elaine Pettry, Patsy Arnold and Delilah Lunsford, will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Friends may visit with the family on Monday, January 6, at Dudley Memorial from 9:00 A.M. until the hour of the service.
