Obituary

Elizabeth Geraldine (Gerry) Leffel Stowers, 96, of Bluefield, Virginia, passed away on November 14th after a long and fruitful life. Gerry was born on August 15th, 1928 in Clear Fork, Virginia. She was the daughter of S.E. (Ras) and Dorothy (Dottie) Leffel. After Gerry finished high school, she attended Radford College, the Women's Division of Virginia Polytechnic Institute (present day, Radford University). Gerry was married to Ray Stowers, and during their years of marriage and devotion they had three children: Clay, Rayette, and Mark. Gerry was a dedicated educator, a wonderful mother, a loving grandmother, and an unforgettable person. She was involved in First United Methodist Church and she enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Gerry was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Dunn Stowers, her parents Samuel Erastus and Dorothy Leffel, her brother William (Bill) Leffel, and her son-in-law Kevin Hendrick. She is survived by her three children: Clay (Lisa) Stowers, Rayette Hendrick, and Mark (Amy) Stowers. She is survived by her eight grandchildren: Carrie Hendrick, Brett Stowers, John Mark Hendrick, Michael Stowers, Hannah (Stowers) Behan, Samuel Stowers, Jacob Stowers, Luke Stowers, and her four great grandchildren. The family would like to thank First United Methodist Church of Bluefield and all of the caregivers Gerry had leading up to her final moments. There will be an intimate ceremony and celebration of life at Woodlawn Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the General Budget of First United Methodist Church of Bluefield, Virginia, a pivotal place in Gerry's life.
