Obituary

Edward Lee "Skip" Honaker, 82 of Bluefield, VA, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, May 27,

2021.

Born April 28,1939 in Bluefield, WV, he was the son of the late Ray and Elsie Honaker. He was also

preceded in death by three siblings; Delores "Bootsie" Lafon, Judy King, and Jack Honaker.

Skip was raised in Bluefield, VA and was a graduate of Graham High School. He went on to serve his

country in the United States Army Reserve. He also attended diesel school in Chicago, IL.

After returning from Chicago, Skip went to work for Rental Uniform Service. During that time he was

also owner of Skip's Food Store, a brakeman at N&W Railroad, and began his career at Tazewell

County Sheriff's Office where he served for nearly 30 years as a Deputy Sheriff and later, a Bailiff. He

also owned Skip's Repair Service in downtown Bluefield, VA, which he operated for 30 years. During

this time he also began a 19 year career as Fire Chief for Bluefield Virginia Volunteer Fire Department.

Following his retirement from the Sheriff's Office and the closing of Skip's Repair Service, he began

helping at King Tire Service, a family business, up until just a few months before his death.

Most importantly, Skip was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

He was a true family man who loved nothing more than spending time with his loved ones. He

especially enjoyed Sunday lunches and vacations with family.

Skip joined Maple View Church of Christ in 2018 where he attended every Sunday that he was able

and loved his church family very much.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 62 years, Kathleen Honaker; his children: Tim Honaker

of Bluefield, VA, Lisa Gilpin and husband Kevin of Pulaski, VA, and Mike Honaker and wife Janet of

Bastian, VA; siblings: Anita Benoit of Winston-Salem, NC and Raymond "Buck" Honaker of Monroe, LA;

grandchildren: John and Luke Trent of Richmond, VA, Ben Gross of Bluefield, VA, Josh Gross and wife

Jennifer of Spanishburg, WV, Rebecca Sawyers and husband Josh of Bluefield, VA, Jenna Honaker of

Richlands, VA, Daniel Marrs of Bluefield, VA, and Kaitlyn Honaker of Bluefield, WV; great-grandchildren:

Evelyn Gross and Elijah Sawyers of Bluefield, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.

A service to celebrate Skip's life will be held Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at 12:00 P.M. at Maple View Church of Christ with ministers Rick Mathena and Buddy Goins officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday at the church from 10:30 A.M. until the hour of the service.

In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Maple View Church of Christ or Christian Acres.
