DOUGLAS HOUSTON COOK
Douglas Houston Cook, 73 of Bluefield, VA passed away Monday, August 15, 2016 at his home. Born in Princeton, WV, he was the son of the late Rev. Fred and June Thomas Cook. He was a member of the Mid-Way Christian Church. He had proudly served his country in the US Navy during Vietnam War and was a member of the VFW Post #9696. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister: Rola Schiraldi; father-in-law: Haynes Belcher; his first wife: Nancy Clyburn Cook.
He will be lovingly and affectionately remembered by his wife of 41 years: Carolyn Belcher Cook of Bluefield, VA; his sons: Robert Cook of Bluefield, WV, Douglas Cook Jr. and wife, Marsha of Bluefield, VA and Michael Cook and wife, Robin of Midland, NC; grandsons: Timothy Cook of Roanoke, VA, Robert Cook Jr. of Bluefield, WV, Trevor Cook and Alex Cook both of Midland, NC, Jeffery Watkins of Bluefield, WV; granddaughter: Cheyenne Cook of Bluefield, VA; step-grandchildren: Brittany Ray and Kristin Dowell of Bluefield, VA; brother: Fred Cook and wife, Sue of Bluefield, WV; sister-in-law: Judy Robertson, King, NC; mother-in-law: Ella Belcher of Bluefield, VA; special cousin: Nyoka Porterfield; and an extended family of cousins, nephews, nieces and special friends; special thanks to the neighbors, friends and co-workers who visited during Douglas' illness and to Brenda Willby and Shelia Smith for their kindness and caring.
A service to celebrate Mr. Cook's life will be held Thursday, August 18, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at Dudley Memorial Chapel with Minister Dan Webb officiating. Entombment will follow at Grandview Memory Mausoleum. Timothy Cook, Robert Cook Jr, Trevor Cook, Alex Cook, Jeffery Watkins and Hunter Cook will serve as pallbearers. Military crypt side rites will be conducted by the VFW Post #9696 and the Pocahontas American Legion Post #14.
