DONALD G. WHITT
Donald G. "Don" Whitt, age 87 of Bluefield, VA passed away peacefully on September 23, 2022 following a brief illness.
He was born on August 12, 1935 in Tazewell County Virginia to the late Carl O. Whitt and Faye P. Whitt.
He attended schools in Tazewell County, VA and graduated from Tazewell High School in 1952. Upon graduation, he began his career in electronics which ultimately led him to Bluefield, WV and WHIS TV where he worked as an engineer. In 1970, he opened Don's TV Sales and Service which he operated for almost forty years.
He was a past member and officer of the Bluefield Business and Professional Association and served on several boards and committees over those years in business. He was honored by the Bluefield, VA town council in 2021 for his more than 35 years of service on the Planning Commission, and was very proud to be a small part of the growth and success of the town during that time.
He was also well known in the local music community having played the piano on the Country Jamboree and Country Showcase TV shows in the 1960's and early 1970's. He loved playing music for all of the children and their families at the annual Community Christmas Tree celebration which he did or six decades, never missing a year. During this time, he also played for countless holiday and special event occasions as well as at his church until his health declined.
For 60 years he was a league bowler at Mountaineer Lanes, a season ticket holder at the Bluefield Orioles and Blue Jays baseball games and golfed with his many golf buddies.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Peggy, and a sister Delores Sawyers.
Those left to cherish his memory are his son Scott Whitt and wife Sara of Bluefield, VA, brothers Doug Whitt, Charlotte NC and Danny Whitt and wife Bonnie, Leesburg FL, grandsons Michael Whitt and wife Katie, Matthew Whitt and wife Alexanna, Ethan Whitt, and great granddaughter Addilene Whitt.
A service to celebrate Don's life will be held Friday, September 30, 2022 at 1:00 P.M. at Dudley Memorial Chapel with Minister Tony Reed officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens. Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.
Friends may visit with the family on Friday from 12:00 P.M. until the hour of service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Don's honor to the Springville Christian Church.
