Cyrus E. (Buddy) Melvin Jr.
Surrounded by his family Cyrus E. (Buddy) Melvin Jr., 66, of Bluefield, VA was called by his Savior to come home early Wednesday morning June 8, 2016.
Born March 25, 1950 at home in Bluefield, WV he was the son of late Cyrus E. Melvin Sr. and Nancy Proffitt Melvin. He was a 1970 graduate of Graham High School. He was previously employed by Norfolk Southern as a conductor before becoming disabled. Buddy was a Christian being baptized into the Lord October 23, 1998. He loved sitting on his front porch with his constant companion, Pucky. He was lovingly referred to as the Mayor of Tazewell Ave by his neighbors. Buddy was a loving fiancé, brother, uncle, cousin, and a friendly kind neighbor. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother in law George (Linky) Carter Jr., grandparents, James and Earsla M. Melvin, Henry and Mary Proffitt.
Survivors include the love of his life, Deborah Thornton, of Kegley, WV, his sister Malinda Cannday and brother in law Doug Cannaday of Lebanon VA: Nephew Mark Carter of Alexandria, VA and David Carter of Lebanon, VA and great neice Emily Carter of Honaker, VA. Uncles and aunts Garland and Carroll Proffitt, Jimmy Proffit, Pearl Fox, and a host of cousins, friends and neighbors. A special cousin, Junior Melvin, whom he talked to almost daily. He will be surly be missed by those that knew and loved him.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 pm Saturday at Dudley Memorial Mortuary Chapel in Bluefield, VA with evangelists Bob Smith and Jim Hill officiating. Entombment will follow at the Grandview Mausoleum on Bluefield-Tazewell Road. Pallbearers will be friends and neighbors. Friends may call on Friday evening at the funeral home from 6 to 8.
