CLARENCE EDWARD "CORKIE" SWETNAM
Clarence Edward "Corkie" Swetnam, 65 of North Tazewell, VA, went to be with the Lord, Saturday, September 1, 2018. Born April 23, 1953, in Madison, WV, he was the son of the late Hobart and Beatrice Swetnam. He began his working career in the coal mines and then worked in the construction field. He enjoyed working with his hands and was a "jack of all trades." He loved fishing and spending time with his family and he faithfully attended Bible Baptist Church in Bluefield, WV. Corkie was a loving husband, father and grandpa. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister: Mary Elizabeth Rogers and a great-grandson: William Xavier Swetnam.
He will be lovingly and affectionately missed by the love of his life, his wife of 46 years: Deborah "Becky" Broyles Swetnam; sons: Kurt Edward Swetnam and wife, Amy Leigh of Peterstown, WV, Jared Ian Swetnam and wife, Lori Lea of Bluefield, VA; daughters: Shannon Keira Swetnam of North Tazewell, VA and Sara Brandy Swetnam Saunders and husband, Christopher Robert of Bluefield, VA; grandchildren: Jordan Ian Swetnam, Isaiah Therron Swetnam, Luke Daniel Carter, Sampson Scott Swetnam, Conner Matthew Swetnam, Vada Marie Swetnam, Joshua Kole Payne and Jada Hope Swetnam; great- grandchild: Benjamin Troy Swetnam; sister: Margaret Ann Martin of N. Tazewell, VA; brothers: Thomas Gordon Swetnam of Bluefield, WV and Zion Hobart Swetnam of Birmingham, AL.
A memorial service to celebrate Corkie's life will be held Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at 6:00 P.M. at Bible Baptist Church with Pastor Stephen Umberger officiating. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, September 5 at the church from 5:00 P.M. until the hour of the service.
In keeping with his wishes, his body will be cremated. In lieu of flowers, it's the family's request that donations be made to: Dudley Memorial to help with the funeral expenses.
