Obituary

"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing."
2 Timothy 4:7-8

Charlotte Geraldine "Gerry" Kegley Truitt, 88, of Bluefield, West Virginia, passed peacefully from the arms of her children into the arms of her Savior on Tuesday, August 31, 2021.

Born in Bluefield, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late David Jefferson Kegley and Mary Kate Moser Kegley.

Gerry was a devoted Godly wife, mother, and grandmother to her family.  She was a devout Christian who loved her Heavenly Father with her whole heart.  She taught adult and children Sunday school for many years in various churches. She took piano lessons as a young lady and played in the churches where her father pastored. As an adult, she played the piano and the organ in churches where she and her family were members.

She had such a love for children.  Over the years, she kept hundreds of children in her home so that she could be at home with her own family and her husband who was disabled. She was known to many as simply, "Mamaw."

While she was able, she loved to cook and bake for others.  It was her joy to be able to feed anyone who would come sit and fellowship at her table.  Her love was sacrificial, selfless, and unconditional. If she knew you, she considered you family.

She is preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband of 40 years, Gwyn Jr. Truitt.  She is the last surviving member of her immediate family.  In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her siblings, Doug Kegley, Zirva Neal, Mabel Kegley, Elizabeth Kegley, Helen Cregger, Lorene Talley, Elsie Hash, Ruth Sawyer, David Kegley, and Ralph Kegley.

She is survived by her four children: Faith Hawes (Ben) of Bluefield, WV, Micah Truitt of the home, Phillip Truitt (Selena) of Peterstown, WV, Lynn Silver (Jeff) of Conway, SC, and honorary son Jeff Stacy of Cedar Bluff, VA; her eleven grandchildren: Danielle Hawes (Brandon), Jonathon Hawes (Brittany), Rebekah Truitt, Drew Truitt, Phillip Truitt, Jr., Randy Truitt, Melissa Truitt, Tiffanie Truitt, Jessica Silver, Jason Silver, Jennifer Silver; her great grandson, Gideon Hawes; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend their utmost gratitude and appreciation to Amedisys Hospice for showing such compassion and care for our mother and grandmother during the past month. The grace and compassion shown by the nurses and doctors during this time will never be forgotten.

There will be a visitation / memorial service to celebrate Gerry's life at Dudley Memorial Chapel with Reverend Jeff Stacy officiating on Thursday September 9 2021 at 6pm friends may visit with the family from 5pm till the hour of service.

While the family truly appreciates the thought behind floral gifts, we ask that, in lieu of flowers, Gerry's love of children is honored with a monetary donation to the Coastline Women's Center at P.O. Box 3325, Myrtle Beach, SC, 29578.
