Charles D. ("C.D.") Hale, Sr., 82 years old, of Falls Mills, died Thursday, October 27th, in Commonwealth Memory Care, Cedar Bluff, VA, after a short illness.
C.D. was born November 20, 1933 in Bluefield, VA to Clarence and Louisa Carbaugh Hale. He married Jean Hale, on October 2, 1954, who remained the love of his life for 62 years. He had six children - Jeanie, Linda, Robin (d. 2014), Danny, Eddie and Shannon. C.D.'s wife and family were his pride and joy.
C.D. was employed for many years in management with Norfolk Southern Railway and retired in the mid 1980's. After retiring, C.D. enjoyed farming and eating his wife's homemade cooking. A lifelong member of Falls Mills Christian Church, he was a Sunday School teacher, a Deacon and an Elder. In the final years of his life, C.D. was a dedicated caretaker of his wife Jean until her death in July, 2016.
C.D. is preceded in death by his parents, his wife: Jean; brothers: Clarence, Samuel, Myron; sisters: Peggy and Laura and a daughter: Robin Welch. He leaves behind his children, ten grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, a brother, McGinnis and sister, Barbara McCarty.
Per C.D.'s wishes, a graveside service to celebrate his life will be held Monday, October 31, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA with Minister Frank Watkins officiating. There will be no visitation. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at Dudley Memorial Mortuary on Monday, October 31, 2016 no later than 12:30 p.m.
