CATHERINE SHORT BOWES

Catherine Short Bowes passed away peacefully at the age of 103 on March 21, 2021 in St. Augustine, FL. She was preceded in death by her husband Hammond Eugene, her parents John C. and Mary Davis Short, and her eight siblings.

Catherine was born in Marytown, WV on Aug 7, 1917. She graduated from Graham High School and attended Bluefield College. As a young mother, she and her husband lived in Kopperston, WV where she was a member of the Kopperston Presbyterian Church and the Order of the Eastern Star. She also served as a den mother to her two sons.

She absolutely loved the Bluefield area, especially Bluefield, VA where she lived for 68 years. She loved sports, especially the WV Mountaineers and played basketball herself in high school and college. She was a member of Graham Presbyterian Church and was a faithful employee of Bluestone Bedding and Bluefield Interiors for many years.

Catherine is survived by two sons, Eugene (Susan Baker) and Preston (Bettyann Gaino), eight grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and 14 great-great grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces.

The family will receive visitors beginning at 9:00 A.M. on March 29 ^th at Dudley Memorial with services to follow at 10:00 A.M. with Rev. William L. Lively officiating.  Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
