Bill Richard Hall
Bill Richard Hall, 89, of Bluefield, West Virginia, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, July 31, 2026.
Born on April 18, 1937, in Bluefield, West Virginia, Bill was the son of the late Frank McKinley Hall and Gussie Marie Hall of Smyth County, Virginia.
Bill was a devoted Christian and a faithful member of Ceres Baptist Church, where he served as an usher and Sunday School Superintendent. His faith was an important part of his life and guided the way he treated others—with kindness, humility, and a servant's heart.
Bill devoted his working life to the coal mines, retiring from Eastern Associated Coal Corporation. He was proud of his years as a coal miner and of his membership in the United Mine Workers of America (UMWA). His strong work ethic, humility, and dedication to providing for his family defined the life he lived.
Family was at the center of Bill's life. He coached his son's Little League baseball and basketball teams and was known for making sure every child had the opportunity to participate. Whether it meant transporting the entire team in his own vehicle or providing rides for children whose parents were unable to, Bill quietly gave of himself to help others and create lasting memories for the young people in his community.
Bill also enjoyed life's adventures. He loved to travel and especially loved to drive. In later years, when he was no longer able to drive himself, he found great happiness simply riding the roads with his daughter, Pam, behind the wheel. During the 1960s, he built and raced go-karts, earning numerous trophies along the way. He remained an avid NASCAR fan throughout his life and rarely missed the chance to follow the sport he loved.
Those who knew Bill will remember his warm sense of humor and playful spirit. He was a natural kidder who loved making people laugh, and his quick wit and easy smile brought joy to family, friends, and everyone fortunate enough to know him.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his son, Travis Hall, and his brothers, Raymond Hall, James Hall, Bobby Hall, and Leon Hall.
Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife of more than 67 years, Lois Hall, whom he married on February 28, 1959; his daughter, Pam Furrow and husband David Furrow; his daughter-in-law, Yvette Hall; his sister, Carolyn Robertson and husband Francis "Smokey" Robertson; his grandsons, Brian Sikes and partner Justin Addington, and Warren Furrow and wife Kara Furrow; his granddaughters, Candace Hall and Chelsea Richardson; his great-grandchildren, Avery Furrow, Caleb Furrow, Lilly, Brohdi, Tucker, and Kanen; sister-in-law: Faye Asbury and husband, Donny; along with additional family members, nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.
Bill will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, coach, church servant, and friend. He lived a life marked by hard work, generosity, faith, and quiet acts of kindness. Whether working in the coal mines, serving his church, coaching young athletes, taking to the open road, or sharing a laugh with family and friends, Bill left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. His memory will forever be treasured by his family and friends.
The family will receive friends on Monday, August 3, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Dudley Memorial Mortuary, 729 Virginia Avenue, Bluefield, Virginia. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m., with burial to follow at Maple Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Warren Furrow, Brian Sikes, Justin Addington and Pam Furrow.
