Betty Florence
Mccann
Dec 19, 1936 — Feb 13, 2024
Dublin
Betty Florence Barber McCann, 87, of Dublin, VA formerly of Bluefield, VA went to be
with the Lord on February 13, 2024 at Pulaski Heath and Rehabilitation in Pulaski, VA.
She was born to Albert (Babe) & Pearl Barber of Flat Top, WV on December 19th, 1936.
Betty was the 12th of 14 children. She graduated Spanishburg High School in 1954.
Betty met her future husband Bill shortly after graduation while working at a local
grocery store and it was instant attraction. When Bill returned from his tour in the US
Army, Bill and Betty got married. After Bill retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad, Bill
and Betty, along with their son Barry; opened, owned, and operated a local Bluefield,
VA business known as Precision Golf. Both Bill and Barry were avid golfers. Betty
worked there as well; keeping the books, answering the phone and greeting customers
with her infectious smile. Precision Golf served the community for 26 years.
Betty was very proud and quick to show off her two grandchildren; Jennifer and
Courtney. Despite the cowgirls equestrian accomplishments they were never able to
get Betty on a horse.
After Barrys passing in 2012, and Bills passing in 2017, Betty went to live with her
daughter, Marcella and husband in Dublin, VA. Although, she was happy and content to
be with her daughter in Dublin, it was obvious she dearly missed Bill and Barry, as well
as her home in Bluefield. Betty was very fortunate to survive cancer, but as she aged
she experienced several falls and broken bones, ultimately leading to her stay in the
Rehabilitation Center.
As a devoted Christian, Betty always kept a Bible in her purse along with a piece of
chocolate candy. She was a member of Brush Fork First Church of God. She spoke
often of going to Heaven, and knew that Bill and Barry were anxiously awaiting her
arrival.
Surviving Betty are her daughter- Marcella Jones (John), sister- Shirley Elkins (Bob),
brother- Jack Barber (Gloria), Daughter in Law- Kathy McCann. Grandchildren Jennifer
Torrence (Davis), Courtney Stuart (Eddie), and Great-Grandchildren- Paisley and Pratt
Stuart. Along with several nieces and nephews.
