BETTY JESSEE

Beloved Mother, Granny and sister in Christ, Betty Jessee, went to her heavenly home April 6, 2020 surrounded by her family.

Betty was born March 1, 1931 to Bliss and Cora Altizer in Bandy, VA. Raised in a large family, Betty learned from all the strong women in her life how to work hard, mother children and be a wife.

Betty met Clarence and they wed December 23, 1949. They raised five children and two of their grandchildren. Their home was always full of love and laughter and everyone was always welcome. Betty fed everyone! Like clockwork, every Sunday a feast was prepared, and all her family was expected to attend. Many a New Year's were rung in sitting in her living room surrounded by friends and family. Countless family reunions were planned and many pots of meatballs made. Anyone who knew Betty knew they could count on a good biscuit, a good friend and a big hug. Her GIVAHUG license plate made that known.

Betty's love of her church extended far beyond the four walls. She was influential in winning so many souls to Christ. Her and Pappy (Clarence) were tireless in their love of the gospel and of their church family. They were part of the original founders of the Mt. View Church of Christ in Springville. There was never a visitor to church who wasn't welcomed by Betty. She kept the attendance record for years and when you missed, she always made sure you were alright and then back to your seat next week.

Better know as "Granny" she always lived up to that title. If you didn't have a granny, she would be yours. Her love of children and her heart for caring for them was unmatched. She had 19 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death, by her husband of 52 years, Clarence Jessee, her oldest son, Dan Jessee, 3 brothers and 5 sisters.

She is survived by her children, Susie (Eric) Bruchas of New Braunfels, TX, Richard Jessee of Bluefield, VA, Martha (Ronnie) Steele of Princeton, WV, Chris (Rob) Webb of Bluefield, VA, Laura (Chad) Arrasmith of Maysville, KY, Ashley (Victor) Williams of Umatilla, FL. She is also survived by her sisters Lorraine Wyatt and Lucille (Jim) Hayes and a host of nieces and nephews.

A private service and burial were held by the family and a celebration of life will be planned for friends and extended family at a later date.

They broke the mold when they made Betty Jessee and her life will live on as a legacy through her family.

In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Granny's name to Mt. View Church of Christ, 388 Elmhurst Rd., North Tazewell, VA 24630.
