Beatrice "Bea" Lois Perry
August 22, 1929 – June 1, 2024
Beatrice "Bea" Lois Perry, 94, of Bluefield, VA, went to meet Jesus and her heavenly family on Saturday, June 1, 2024. Bea passed away peacefully in her home with family by her side caring for her as she cared for them so passionately throughout her life.
She was born August 22, 1929 in Big Four, WV but lived most of her life in Bluefield, VA where her husband of 56 years, Robert "Bob" Perry, continues to reside. Bea's pride and joy was her family as she dedicated her life to being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
In addition to her husband Bob, Bea is survived by her son David Perry of Savannah, GA; grandson Brandon Perry, who is currently a Sergeant in the US Army's 82nd Airborne Division, and his fiancé Jessica Stutz of Raleigh, NC; granddaughter Nikki Fiducioso, her husband Joseph and great-grandchildren Austin, Caleb, Adrian, and Kameron of Colorado Springs, CO; and granddaughter Leah Freeman of Oklahoma City, OK. Bea is also survived by her sisters, lovingly dubbed the "Smith Girls", Helen Lawless of King, NC; Karen Porshia and husband Elwood of Moneta, VA; Brenda Aldridge of Charlotte, NC; and her sister-in-law Sandy Smith of Bluefield, WV.
Bea is preceded in death by sons, Donald Thompson (2021) and Mark Thompson and his wife Sheila (2008 and 2009, respectively); her siblings Catherine Smith, Stella Sadler, Arnold Smith and Billy Smith; and her brothers-in-law Bobby Lawless and Doug Aldridge.
Bea made her home in Bluefield, VA amidst a large, extended, close-knit family that spanned several generations and namesakes, including the Perry, Thompson, Smith, and Lawson families. She was one of eight children born to the late James Ted Smith and Martha Alberta Smith (Lawson). Having lost her mother early in life, Bea developed deep and lasting bonds with her siblings assuming the matriarchal role in the family that transcended time and generations. She was very blessed to have grown up and raised her own family with the love and support of a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins with whom she shared bonds as close as siblings. Bea experienced world events and personal life events, both wonderful and tragic, during her long and incredibly healthy 94 years in this world that can only be described as a truly full life. She literally moved to Bluefield as a child in a horse-drawn covered wagon and lived to experience all the innovation and technology in our world today. Her secret to living through all the changes in the world was to simply love and support her family while relying on her faith and salvation through Jesus Christ to guide her path. Bea was a saved and faithful member of Virginia Avenue United Methodist Church for over forty years. She was a fixture for many years in downtown
Bluefield, VA often enjoying fellowship with her friends and family at the lunch counter at New Graham Pharmacy.
A celebration of Bea's life will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2024. Friends may visit with the family at Virginia Avenue United Methodist Church in Bluefield, VA beginning at 11:00 AM, to be followed by a service at 12:00 PM at the church. Immediately after the service, family and friends will proceed to Maple Hill Cemetery for burial. Pastor Mark Asbury of Virginia Avenue United Methodist Church will be officiating.
May God's blessings reign down upon Beatrice as a good and faithful servant of the Lord, and may we all rest comfortable knowing she is forever healed and living in heaven by the salvation she accepted through Jesus Christ her savior.
