BASAL EDWARD HESS
Basal Edward Hess, 60 of Bluefield, VA, passed away Sunday, January 15, 2023. He was born in Bluefield, WV and was adopted and raised by Charlie Frazier and Sula Hardy Hess, whom he called parents. Basal enjoyed his work at Bluestone Manufacturing as a coil winder. For most of his career, he had worked in construction for various companies specializing in different areas of expertise. He had a strong work ethic and loved to work. Basal had a heart for children and pets. He enjoyed hanging out with his friends. After his son Jarrett was born, they grew up together. Nascar, camping at the river, fishing and hunting were some of the things they enjoyed doing together. Later in life, Basal and Jarrett enjoyed figure eight car racing, Jarrett drove the cars and Basal worked on the mechanics of the cars. Basal had a fierce passion for his family, especially his 3 granddaughters. They could often be found riding 4 wheelers together. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by special cousin that Basal knew as Uncle Jerry Gillespie; his father in law: Henry Sweeney; and his biological mother: Violet Hardy Cermak.
Those left to cherish Basal's memory are his wife of over 34 years: Margie Marie Sweeney Hess; his son: Jarrett Cole Hess and wife, Jessica of Bluefield, VA; granddaughters: Katelyn "Uptown" Hess, Jessa "Downtown" Hess and Johanna "Foxy" Hess of Bluefield, VA; mother in law: June Sweeney of Bluefield, VA; sisters in law: Lisa Sweeney of Tazewell, VA and Heather Sweeney of Bluefield, WV; special niece: Jeri Lynn Powers; half-brother: Hank Faulkner of IL; several nieces and nephews; his fur babies: Harley and Cruiser.
There will be no visitation and no public service. In keeping with Basal's wishes, his family will honor his life with a private service officiated by a close friend, Dennis Lambert.
