Obituary

Barbara Sue Fuller, 78, passed away at her home in Springville, VA, on Friday, July 5, 2024. Born on June 16, 1946, in Bluefield, WV, she was the daughter of the late Wallace and June (Pettus) Lewey.

Barbara met and married her husband of 44 years, Edward "Eddie" Hopkins Fuller, and a couple years later, they welcomed their only child, Joshua Tyler Fuller on July 3, 1982. Barbara loved her family fiercely and devoted herself to caring for them. Anyone who knew her knew just how much she loved them. She and Josh spent many days fishing as he was growing up and they spent their Thanksgivings watching "A Christmas Story" marathons while she cooked. When Josh met his wife, Randi, Barbara loved and treated her daughter, Emma, as her own granddaughter. When Josh and Randi's daughter, Roxy, was born in July of 2012, she was the light of Barbara's life and the center of her attention. As Josh's life tragically came to an end much too early in 2013, Barbara was able to put her focus on Roxy, then just 13 months old, to push through and endure some of the darkest and hardest days of her life. Barbara and Eddie kept Roxy during the day until she was old enough to start school and then they picked her up at least twice a week from school, taking her shopping and spoiling her with Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, McDonald's, Shoney's, Dollar Tree shopping sprees, Walmart shopping sprees, etc. Barbara loved it when she and Eddie took Roxy on shopping trips, especially to the Bass Pro Shop in Bristol, always making sure to stop at Red Lobster to get Roxy crab legs.

Barbara had a soft spot for pets of all kinds…dogs, cats, rabbits, birds, guinea pigs, mice, hermit crabs, etc. She loved her animals second only to her family, especially her birds and her dogs, Tater and Chloe. As an adult, Josh would joke and say that Barbara fed her animals better than she fed his dad. She spoiled them as much as she could with treats, toys, love and attention.

Barbara had a huge green thumb and she loved tending to her flowers and plants. She had a vast array of beautiful plants and flowers around her house, including a 44-year-old tree-like plant she and Eddie got when they got married.

Barbara was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. You could be sure to find her at home watching the games anytime her Cowboys were playing. She didn't let much, if anything, get in her way of watching the Cowboys play football.

Barbara could be quiet and reserved, but when she opened up, it was easy to see that she was kind, loving, and had the most generous spirit. She could also be a little spitfire, especially if she felt her family was being mistreated or hurt. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, Barbara is preceded in death by her brother Frazier, sister Priscilla, her chihuahua "Tater" who she adored, and her most beloved son, Josh. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Eddie, daughter-in-law, Randi Fuller, two granddaughters, Emma Furches and Roxy Fuller, two nieces, Robin Hodges and husband Tony and Shelia Johns, two nephews, David Fuller and wife Marcia and Derrick Fuller, and her 13-year-old dog, Chloe.

A service to celebrate Barbara's life will be held on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at Dudley Memorial Chapel in Bluefield, VA at 1 pm, with Pastor Gerald Roberts officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 12 pm until the hour of service. Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be David Fuller, Derrick Fuller, Kelvin Matney, Alex Truman, Stan Ferguson and Tony Hodges.
