ARNOLD GENE MITCHEM

Arnold "GENE" Mitchem, 63 of Bluefield, VA, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, July 22, 2024.  Born in Bluefield, WV, he was the son of the late Bobby Jean Mitchem and Peggy O'Neal Patton Mitchem.  He loved watching football, western movies. He especially loved to eat.  Gene enjoyed building things and his life's work had been in construction.  He was a gentle, humble soul.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant sister: Peggy Lee Mitchem.

He will be remembered and missed by his children: Stephen Blevins and his family of Mt. Airy, NC and Megan Shepard and husband, Bruce and their family of Florida; his siblings: Elizabeth Gail Doner and husband, Marshall of Orlando, FL, Tammy Hatcher and husband, Mike of Bland, VA and Robert Mitchem of Bluefield, VA; his fur baby: Clyde; an extended family of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins; Ronnie Raley and wife, Jenny of Bluefield, VA and Tina Raley of Bluefield, WV, who Gene helped raise and thought of like his own.

A celebration of life service will be held Friday, July 26, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. at Dudley Memorial Chapel with Pastor Michael Carter officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, July 25, 2024 at Dudley Memorial from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.
