ALVA "AL" E TABOR
Alva "Al" E Tabor, 85 of Bluefield, VA, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, June 8, 2015. Born in Bluefield, WV, he was the son of the late Alva Edison Tabor and Fannie Gray Neece Tabor. He was a member of Virginia Avenue United Methodist Church. Mr Tabor was very proud of his military service to his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict from 1952-1954. He was serving in Korea when his son was born and did not see him until he was nine months old. He was honorably discharged as a Sargent First Class and was a charter member and past commander of VFW Post #9696. He was equally proud that he worked for the Kroger Company, retiring after 47 years. He worked in stores in Bluefield, WV and VA, Northfork, WV and Marion, VA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law: Mrs. P S Amburn, whom he loved like a mother; his brother: Emory Tabor; 4 sisters: Mrs. Hilda Champ, Mrs. Mildred Bowling, Mrs. Eva Snead and Mrs. Lucille Smith.
He will be lovingly and affectionately remembered by his wife of 64 years: Doris A Tabor of Bluefield, VA; his son: Tom Tabor and wife Susan of Stuart, VA; his daughter: Katherine Tabor of Bluefield, VA; his grandsons: Andrew Tabor, Nikolaus Tabor and wife Savannah and Alexander Tabor all of Stuart, VA; great-grandchildren: Max, Charlie and Macie Tabor all of Stuart, VA; sisters: Mrs. Opal Shields and Mrs. Molly Smith; brother-in-law: David Amburn and wife Barbara; many nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate Mr. Tabor's life will be held Friday, June 12. 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at Virginia Avenue United Methodist Church with Dr. Ken Sprinkle and Rev. Larry Ramey officiating. Interment will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery with Andrew Tabor, Nikolaus Tabor, Alexander Tabor, Bob Bageant, Joe Johnson and Gene Wise serving as pallbearers.
Friends are invited to visit with the family Thursday June 11,2015 at Dudley Memorial Mortuary from 6:00-8:00 P.M.
