ALMA VIRGINIA "SHORTY" WHITMAN
Alma Virginia "Shorty" Whitman, 92 of Bluefield, VA, went to be with our Lord and Savior on Wednesday, April 29, 2015. She was born August 24, 1922 in White Haven, MD and was the daughter of the late Lee F and Edna Gay Cooksey Laird. Mom, Mamaw, "Shorty" was a beloved and wonderful woman who never lacked in love for her family and her famous saying was "No harm done". She was preceded in death by her parents, 4 brothers, 3 sisters, her loving husband of 53 years, Garland Whitman; a son: Buddy Whitman; and one great grandson: Joshua Michael Bailey.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter: Ann Riffe and husband Roy; 4 grandchildren: Lee Riffe and wife Kim, Carmen Bailey and husband Mike, Kim Duesing all of Bluefield, VA and Tim Riffe of Reston, VA; 8 great-grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren.
A service to celebrate Mrs. Whitman's life will held Saturday, May 2, 2015 at Dudley Memorial Chapel at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Steve Branch of Destiny Outreach Ministries officiating. Interment will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens. Lee Riffe, Tim Riffe, Justin Duesing, Alex Riffe, Donnie Gott and Rodney Scott will serve as pall bearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Bailey, Hunter Brewster and Davis Riffe.
Friends are invited to visit with the family on Saturday at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of service.
